I wanted to teach Novalie to ride her bike without training wheels last spring, but we were so busy and where we live it is dirt rocky hilly roads, so I never did.  She has been wanting to ride her bike a lot lately, so I take it down to the park area where the roads are flat.  Today we decided to take her training wheels off and she did so good.  She picked it right up and I just had to help her start.  She was a little uneasy about turning, but we will be working on it everyday now.  She will be a pro in no time!

I don’t know what to say really about today besides it happened.  Novalie went to Kindergarten excited as ever!  I am so excited for Novalie to be starting a new phase in life.  She is going to have so many wonderful experiences and opportunities in life.  She is confident and will do everything and anything she chooses.  As excited as I am for her, my heart is completely broken and that desire to keep her right by my side to protect her is as strong as ever.  But, slowly through the years I will have to let her go and today was the first of many of those times.  It was hard and I made it to the truck before I sobbed, literally sobbed.  I paced the house most of the morning wondering what Novalie was doing at that moment.  At 32, do I still cause that worry for my Mom that I feel for Novalie right now?  It is almost unbearable.  At the same time, how grateful and how wonderful it is that I get to be a Mom and have this experience and worry.  I have thought a lot today about the day Novalie was born and all the incredible people that made it possible.  Without that day, I would not be experiencing this day.  I am truly grateful and humble.

I was 10 minutes early for the bus, of course, and the bus was 35 minutes LATE!  I was going bonkers!  When it finally did come as soon as Novalie saw me, she put her face up to the window and smiled so huge and waved so enthusically with both hands.  That made my heart full and happy and brought the tears all over again.  She is such a big girl!  I am so proud of her!

Tonight was a fun and special night.  After the ordeal of having to switch schools at the last minute and going through the stress, heartbreak, and anger that went along with the situation, tomorrow morning Novalie will have her first day of Kindergarten.  And now that it is all said and done, we love her school.  She is a Franklin Fox.  I was praying for weeks that Novalie would get put in the right class and after all the tears and worry, I really feel like she is and we are thankful and so happy to be going to Franklin.  There are 2 kids from our ward that are in her class, so we are very glad about that.  Franklin does a slow start Kindergarten, so today we went to school for 1 1/2 hours and all the parents stayed the whole time and just introduced the children to the classroom and the teacher.  Novalie didn’t even know I was there, she has been so ready for this.  So, tomorrow is the real deal, the first day!  I will post some pictures for sure!

Tonight, we wanted to start a back to school tradition.  Something we can do every year that is low key and fun for the night before school.  We decided to let Novalie choose whatever she wanted me to make for dinner, have a father’s blessing and then go out for ice cream.  Novalie chose to make pizza with me and watermelon.  And that is just what we had.  Kevin gave Novalie a sweet and perfect blessing.  Out of this whole experience, I will remember the blessing the most and will probably never forgot it.  What a special gift to be able to give to our daughter.  Then we went to Dairy Queen for some ice cream!  It was a great night and we are all ready for tomorrow!  Even me (I think).

End of summer days!

Here is what we have been up to in the last 2 weeks.

Trip to Richland:

We went swimming at Keith and Michelle’s neighborhood pool and I don’t think Novalie has ever had so much fun!  She was doing all kinds of jumps off the diving board, going down the slide and swimming like a fish!  It was SO fun to watch her!

Kevin and I celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary!  Happy anniversary Kevin!  I love you!  Thanks for marrying me!  Thanks to David and Tamsin watching Novalie, we were able to go out and have a nice dinner.  Here we are headed to dinner.  12 years…..I can’t believe it has been that long!

We went to Boyer Park for the last time (most likely) this summer with some friends from church.  I know I have said it before, but we love Boyer Park!

We went to the Lentil Festival.  It was hot and we were grumpy, but Novalie enjoyed it.

Waiting for the parade to start:

Novalie dunking the police officer.  She thought that was great!

And by far her favorite thing, the tire swing:

One of Novalie’s friends invited her to a tea party, so cute.  Here she is waiting to go.  Isn’t she just beautiful?

Preparing for Kindergarten

On Saturday night, we were out and about and decided to find Novalie’s elementary school.  We drove up to it and she was so excited.  She wanted to go to school right that moment.  On Monday, we were out doing a few errands and she asked me to see her school again.  As we were driving to the school, we were talking about Kindergarten and how she gets to ride the bus home from school and my eyes welled up with tears and I had to take a moment to compose myself.  My baby, my little baby Nova, is going to school.  I have moments of complete panic where I think, have I taught Novalie enough to really be going to school?  Have I taught her and showed her the difference between right and wrong well enough?  Have I given her the tools to make decisions and handle situations correctly?  Have I showed her enough kindness, so she will be kind to everyone?  I pray non-stop that she will get a good teacher for her and she will have classmates that will be good friends.  This has all come so quickly and it scares me to death!

Once we got to the school on Monday, we got out and played on the playground.  I kept going over with Novalie the rules on a playground and being polite and watching where you are going when there are so many kids playing.  She finally said, “Mom, I know all the rules, you don’t have to keep telling me!”  So, I let it go, and we had fun playing on the playground.  Novalie was so proud of herself because she could do the monkey bars by herself.  She thought is was cool that they had so many swings.  We will go there a few more times in the next 2 weeks before school starts, so that Novalie can be comfortable with being there – okay, well truthfully – so I can be comfortable with Novalie being there.  Home schooling has never been more tempting….
