I Love You This Much

If you have kids, there is a 99% chance that you own or have read the book, “Guess How Much I Love You.”  We have read this book for years.  A popular expression from that book is to say, “I love you to the moon and back.” When Novalie was old enough to understand space, she said this to me:

“Why would he only love him to the moon and back?  I love you through the whole universe and back.”  Now, it could be that she just wanted to one up the author, but I think she just didn’t think that was enough.  In her little brain, the moon wasn’t enough when you could cover much more distance.

Now that Novalie has a clear understanding of infinity she tells me she loves me to infinity and back.  I tell her I love her a billion times infinity and back.  She says, “Mom, that makes no sense because infinity never ends.”

She has no idea.  No idea that my love for her does in fact reach a billion times infinity.

Spring Concert

With Mother’s Day being on Sunday, Novalie’s spring concert last night was a treat!  Now, some people might dread going to that type of thing, but I LOVE it!  Love, love, love it!  I may have even gotten a little teary eyed during it.  Sitting there realizing that this is the 3rd concert we have been too and next year she will be grouped in the older elementary grade concerts made me feel very sentimental.  AND looking at my beautiful daughter standing among her peers just shining like the sunshine she is, made me fight back tears.

Sometimes I get so caught up in the emotions of wanting to be a mother for the second time, that I forget how incredibly blessed I am to be Novalie’s mother.  Last night, in those moments of watching her on stage, I just soaked up every second of it.  I mean, I really just sat there and took it all in.  The sight, the smells, the sound, the beauty that she is.  It is in tender moments  like that, that just take my breathe away and I know that everything is right in the world because I am Novalie’s mother.  I love that little girl and I love that I got to go to her school concert and watch her perform.  School concerts are a JOY!

The theme was Cinco de Mayo.

All the 2nd graders.

Taylor, Mrs. Meacham and Novalie!

I Am Pretty Fantastic!

When someone says that all LDS people are a farce, it makes my blood boil.

I am LDS and I am a normal human being.  I make mistakes, I am not by any means perfect, far from it.  I believe in God and His son, Jesus Christ.  I believe that they live and love me and that I can live with them again with my family by my side.  What is so weird about that?  Nothing, it is pretty spectacular.  Live with my family forever with the most perfect person to ever walk on the earth?  Yes, please.

I choose to teach my daughter about morals and values.  I teach her to respect her body and dress modestly.  I teach her to stand up for what is right and to choose the right.  She will not be allowed to date before she is 16.  Who needs boy drama that early in life anyhow?!

We don’t go out on Sunday, we don’t do sports on Sunday, we don’t shop on Sunday.  We choose to spend that day with each other learning how to become better people and thanking God for all that we have been blessed with.  What is wrong with that??

Why is it that when you tell someone that you don’t drink because you are LDS, they think you are weird.  But, if you tell someone that you don’t drink because you are a recovering alcoholic, they are proud of you and respect you.  I choose not to drink.  Do I think someone who drinks a glass of wine at night is bad, absolutely NOT!  Do I care that you drink, no!  So, why do you care if I don’t drink?  I choose to not drink because it is unhealthy for your body and your mind.  It alters your thinking and control of your body.  I choose to not do that.  Big deal!

I believe the Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ just like the Bible.  There are some pretty awesome stories in there, don’t knock it until you read it.  It is pretty cool to have some pretty fantastic heros to turn to for example when your feet are dragging in the mud.  It is the best adventure story out there.

I am a normal person who is just trying to navigate through life with the belief that I don’t have to do it alone.  Life is hard, why would anyone be opposed to any and all help they can get?  I pray to God and I know that he hears me and strengthens me and comforts me when no one else can.  I think that is pretty cool.  I will take all the help I can get!

See, that isn’t so bad, right?
